The Real Estate Society - A Free Referral Service for Buyers and Sellers

Start-Up NY Helps Jump-Start New and Innovative Referral Agency

Kathleen Wein's PictureKathleen Wein - a New York State licensed real estate broker with more than 28 years experience – is the owner of The Real Estate Society, a company that provides free referral services for buyers and sellers. After a three year recovery from a disability that left her unable to work, Kathleen decided not to return to being a real estate broker. Her new resolve was to raise the bar in the real estate industry by providing referral services to buyers and sellers. Why? She identified that more than 80% of real estate agents have less than one year experience; thus, the selling/buying real estate service quality has been suffering. She wants to make sure that her clients – buyers and sellers – get the best real estate agent that suits their needs. Kathleen’s efforts have resulted in better services, faster sell times, better prices and less hassle for the buyers/sellers. What’s more, it is all FREE for the buyer or seller.

Kathleen joined Start-Up NY in February 2008. She had a business plan draft, vision, and passionate drive to raise the bar in real estate industry. Within a month of joining Start-Up NY, she had received feedback and assistance with her business plan revision and services form a CPA on her financial plan. In addition, Kathleen attended numerous training workshops provided by Start-Up NY such as Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurial Marketing and QuickBooks. In March 2008 Start-Up NY helped Kathleen apply for the Micro Credit Loan available at the South Side Innovation Center, which she obtained within 10 days after submitting an application. Furthermore, Kathleen worked close with the Start-Up NY’s Benefits Planning Specialist at ARISE, who has helped her develop the PASS Plan and obtain an IDA of $1,000.00 with the Syracuse Cooperative Federal Union in April 2008. Furthermore, Start-Up NY brought entrepreneurship professors from Syracuse University to provide her with guidance for her new marketing and growth strategy.

Kathleen registered her company - The Real Estate Society - on March 1st, 2008. Since then she has helped numerous buyers and sellers with their real estate needs. In one instance Kathleen worked with a couple who has been struggling to sell their home for 9 months. Kathleen interviewed them, listened to their needs and then indentified an agent. After connecting the agent with the couple, their home was sold in record time - 9 days. What a great value, from 9 months to sold in 9 days. Yes, she has definitely raised the bar. Start-Up NY is proud to be able to assist entrepreneurs such as Kathleen, who make a difference, bring innovation and add value in their industry.

Start-Up NY is a collaborative project of Onondaga County, the Syracuse University Burton Blatt Institute and Whitman School of Management, and ARISE.
